Keeping your inner peace intact is one of the vital things you need to take care of in life. Having peace gives your the ability to remain calm and happy regardless of outside circumstances.
Why is inner peace important? Well because with inner peace, you are emotionally mature, and you have the capacity to learn new principles and ideas that help you grow into a better person with each opportunity that awaits, and you can better handle any situation that life throws at you.
Wondering what does inner peace mean? Well, it is simple to understand. Here are some definitions of inner peace:
Inner peace is having the ability to connect to the supreme self which is eternally at peace.
Inner peace means being mentally and spiritually at peace.
Inner peace means freeing your mind from worry and negative thoughts.
Inner peace is a state in which the mind is quiet and serene.
Some of the basic principles for finding inner peace and happiness include the following:
Get Some Space for Yourself
You need to get some space for yourself – find a quiet place to sit down and relax. Take deep breaths and decide that you will spend at least a few hours of the day by yourself. This means you do not get to do any work or engage yourself in any kind of distraction of some sort. Instead, you focus on the present moment with yourself.
It is said that you cannot be truly happy with anyone else if you are not happy with yourself. The best way to find if you are happy with yourself is to spend some time with no distractions. Try to spend at least one hour with yourself, relax your mind and think about your values, beliefs. On the other side, it can be anything light that makes you happy such as creating a story or painting a picture.
Spend Time In Nature
One of the best ways for how to find inner peace and happiness within yourself is to spend some time in nature. Nature helps us build a connection with our true selves. We eventually discover that we actually belong to nature, and there is no way we can separate ourselves from it. The more we avoid it, the more we move away from our real origin. This can cause a sense of disturbance in our lives, causing us to get carried away in the senseless duties we assign to ourselves as human beings.
That is why it is vital that we stop for a while, observe the scenic beauty nature has in store for us, and offer gratitude to what it has provided us with. The relaxation it gives to our senses is what you need to realize as it is the true answer to questions like how do you find inner peace and happiness?
Go for Thoughts that Make You Feel at Peace.
When we think of self-discipline, most people think of the following:
- to choose to eat a bowl of salad instead of a chocolate cake.
- to choose to show up for a workout session even when you’re not motivated, instead of sitting on the couch with the remote in one hand for a Hulu series
- to choose to go to bed late to finish a business project instead of going out Saturday night and get back home drunk.
However, you can also use your self-discipline to choose your thoughts. That is, choose thoughts that will help you and bring you peace, instead of choosing thoughts that will hurt you. Do the following:
Throughout the day pay attention to your thoughts. Focus on things that make you feel good, happy, calm.
For example, tell yourself today I will be grateful all day. Even when things get hard I will find a way to be grateful and happy.
When you realize that you’re entertaining thoughts that hurt you, stop.
Switch over to thoughts that help you, and that make you feel at peace.
Keep telling yourself that you can always choose thoughts that will bring you inner peace.
Sometimes, it is important to stay quiet in peace and be still to observe what the environment surrounding us has to tell us.
Allow good thoughts to slide into your life in moments when you are feeling most helpless and vulnerable, and you will feel the divine power doing an intervention you needed so badly in your life.

Don’t Run From Your Emotions.
It is easier said than done – most of the people we see are trying hard to run from their feelings. This is because when we face our true emotions, we are opening ourselves to a world of vulnerability which makes us think that we are in a sort of danger. This is not true in the case when we are trying to make inner peace with ourselves.
If you find yourself questioning, “how do I find inner peace with myself?” you need to fix the root cause of any troubling issues you are facing. If you find yourself quieting and possibly numbing your emotions with distractions, you are not making any peace; you are just lingering it with false hope to have it under control, which is not the case.
So, face your emotions even if it hard to digest, because it is the only way that will relieve you of many of your troubling thoughts and fears.

Learning A Skill
As humans, we all love to explore new things. Our thirst for exploring generates from our sense of curiosity which is deeply embedded into us. Without it, we lack the fundamental qualities of being human.
Therefore, practicing a skill will pretty much satisfy your instinct to find out something new about things. It could be anything; learning a new language, learning how to play a musical instrument, learning how to paint, sing, act, or dance as long as you find some interest in it.
Shift from Addictions to Preferences
An addiction is a chronic dysfunction of the brain system that involves reward, motivation, and memory.
Being addicted is being unable to stay away from something, which is a lack of self-control when it comes to something you like. And that state of mind makes you upset for not be satisfied. There are a lot of examples.
To explain to Cleary how to shift from addictions to preference we will take only a few examples.
Let’s say you love coffee; I mean a lot and your roommate uses the last coffee in the Apartment then you get upset because you’re not seeing yourself spending a day without any drop of coffee. Then you addicted to coffee
If you get upset because you ask someone for help and they refuse, then you’re addicted to having people acquiesce to your requests.
Now, transform these two examples of addictions into preferences, here’s what happens:
You get up in the morning and no coffee to found anywhere in the Apartment. You tell yourself “oh no coffee”? it is ok I then have tea this morning.
If you ask your friend for help and he refuses; it ok he has the right to say no. Or; he agrees to help you, which makes your day even better than it was because it ok either he said yes or no to your request.
Transform Your Addictions Into Preferences. There is an amazing book called “Handbook to Higher Consciousness” which was written in 1972 by Ken Keyes In his book, Keyes indicates that you should transform your addictions into preferences. check it out you will like it.
Seek Emotional Support
One of the most important ways to seek inner peace within yourself is to acknowledge your needs. For that, being vulnerable and reaching out for help when needed is an essential element. You should know when it is getting heavy for you and when you cannot handle it by yourself. Accept when you need help and let others help you. You need to learn that it is right to ask for emotional support from those you can trust.
You are not a burden or a liability to anyone when you seek emotional support; you are validating your emotions in a healthy way which helps you to find peace within yourself. Your circle should be ready to be there for you.
Donating charity can help you stand outside of your circle and look at the bigger picture. When you help people outside of your circle, you will feel a sense of fulfillment in you. This will help you understand the basic meaning behind humanity and help you reach the bigger goal – the purpose to help one another in this world.
When we are able to reach out and do stuff to help others in whatever way we can, we are finding inner peace and happiness. It does not have to be financial every time. You can do any volunteer work, or you can try giving your free skill to someone in need. As long as you are helping someone, you are fulfilling the purpose of humanity.
Have Room For Spiritual Growth
Spiritual growth is one of the basic needs of every human. There are many ways through which you can learn how to find and manifest inner peace. For example, you can learn how to practice yoga, do meditation, or practice rhythmic chants. There are some series of rituals and prayers different regions follow according to their rules and based on your religion; you can practice them to get your spiritual needs fulfilled and build your connection with the divine.
Healing with crystals, healing your chakras, identifying your energies, and doing aromatherapies, for example, also help you build a connection with the universe.
